21 September 1944 - 16 February 1945 Bergen-Belsen replacing Dr Erich Kather. He was often drunk but did not participate in violence against the prisoners, but then neither did he do much for the inmates either. Caught Typhus January 1945. In a deposition made in 1954, Schnabel wrote: ‘Shortly before the war ended, he was transferred to a military hospital (Wehrmacht) in Silesia, where he was captured by the Russian Army on 9th May 1945. July 1948 he was released from a Russian prisoner of war camp. From 1950 he had his own medical practice in Köln. What happened to him after 1954 is unknown. Can you help?
