A territorial medical officer to the York and Lancaster Regiment, Mr Anderson was called up at the outbreak of war and promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, becoming officer commanding the surgical unit of the 29th British General Hospital. He served in Tehran, in the Persia and Iraq Expeditionary Force and was posted to Normandy with the 2nd Army. When hostilities ceased he was called on to tend the victims of Belsen. For his services he was awarded the OBE and TD and was mentioned in dispatches. |
