Brief History

Practiced Dentistry in Sosnowiec, Poland until 04 August 1943, when she and her family were deported to Auschwitz where her parents, first husband, Josef Preserowicz, and their 5-year-old son Benjamin were exterminated.

Due to her medical training, she was assigned to the Jewish infirmary at Auschwitz.

November 1944 transferred to Bergen-Belsen.

Helped organize the efforts to restore to health the liberated prisoners of Belsen.

21 September 1945 Witness for the prosecution at the first Belsen Trial.

1946 Married Josef Rosensaft, the chairman of the Central Jewish Committee in the British Zone of Germany and of the Jewish Committee of Bergen-Belsen

Served as head of the Health Department of the Jewish Committee of Belsen and the Central Commitee of Jews in the British Zone of Germany.

1978 Member of President Carter's Commission on the Holocaust.

1980 - 1994 Member of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council.

One of the founding members of the United States Holocaust Memorial Council, where she served until 1994 as Chair of the Archives Committee and on the Executive Committee.

Honorary President of the World Federation of Bergen-Belsen Survivors.
