Brief History

Worked as a tailor until February 1940, when he was called up to the Royal Fusiliers.

After training he was due to be sent to France, but the deployment was called off after the battle of Dunkirk.

Eventually went to France as part of the Military Police, when he was amongst the forces that landed at Normandy in June 1944.

Travelled through France, Belgium, Holland and into Germany before hearing news of Belsen.

Was one of 17 members of his battalion sent to Belsen – they arrived 5 days after the first British troops. His job was to set up and run an information post for the newly liberated prisoners.
